About Abby Carman, Artist
I started painting and drawing as a young child in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was inspired by my mother. When I was younger my mom pulled out a few paintings of hers from college. At that point I thought to myself, she is really good maybe I can do it also. Academics were not my strong point. I was the middle child. Growing up I had the natural feeling of a need to compete. My older sister always did well in school, and never got in trouble, and my younger sister was also very smart, and outgoing.
I needed my niche. I needed to feel like I was good at something. I found art.
I loved art class; I took as many as I could in high school. My father is my best critic. He always has the eye for what might be a little off, or an idea to make the painting even better. I decided for college I wanted to move away. I went to the University of Arkansas. I took art Classes to help my GPA. I really enjoyed them. At the beginning of my junior year, my dad suggested I become an Art major. I honestly did not think I could major in something I loved so much.
This is the year I met my wonderful and supporting husband. After college we got married. We have two wonderful children. I have chosen to be a stay at home mom during these formative years for them, and I would not trade it for anything. They have helped open new doors of expression for me. Children have such an innocent way about them. Our children love to have art time together. I hope that one day I will inspire them
to follow there dreams, like my parents did for me.
